What can I expect during a Bowen treatment?

Treatments usually last for 45 minutes to 1 hour. I will take your full history of your health at the first appointment. Many people usually become very relaxed right away, and even fall asleep during the treatment. Some report strange tinglings in their body or feelings that certain parts of their body are moving. It is not uncommon for some patients to feel that my hands are still on them when the breaks are taking place.

Is Bowen Therapy safe?

Yes. It is very gentle. There are no violent twists, cracks or crunches. Unlike most therapies there are very few reasons that someone cannot have Bowen. Anyone can be treated from all age groups including newborn babies to the elderly.

Can I mix Bowen with other therapies?

No. It is important not to receive any other physical treatments for at least 7 days before or after a Bowen treatment. Mixing treatments can result in the body becoming overloaded with different information and may affect the outcome of the treatment.

What should I wear for a Bowen treatment?

Bowen can be carried out through light clothing. Try to wear something lightweight and non-slippery. A cotton t-shirt and thin trousers are ideal. If you are wearing bulky items such as jumpers or coats you will be asked to remove these for the treatment. Jeans are a definite no!!

How many sessions will I need?

Every person is different, so I can not tell anyone how many they will need. Sometimes just one session is enough, chronic and long term injuries may take longer. I recommend 2-3 treatments if needed and then to have a break to let the body adjust. Many people then come back for 'top ups' as and when they feel they need it. Treatments are carried out every 7-10 days, as the body needs time to adjust and reset in between sessions.

What does a Bowen treatment cost?

£45-00 per session.

What do I do and what can I expect after a Bowen treatment?,

Water –Effective functioning of the body relies on water to assist in increasing blood flow to nerve endings and aid in lymph movement around the body. After the session it is important to drink more water than normal to support this. When people ignore this advice it is quite common for people to get headaches.

Walk- Movement of the body also helps with lymph drainage and oxygen transportation. Regular short walks after the session will generate natural movement around the body creating a more hospitable environment for healing.

Post-treatment reactions to treatment are not uncommon and include tiredness, thirst, an increase in original symptoms, stiffness, headaches, flu-like symptoms and increased dream activity. It is vital that a client does not cease the treatment in response to a strong reaction. The moves are so subtle that if a strong reaction is experienced it demonstrates how profound the work can be and further treatments are essential if the full effect is going to be felt.
